“Nikki was usually in charge of the division of our drugs.  This was only because she loved the ritual of chopping and cutting, not because she was the most accurate, and definitely not because she was the most trustworthy.  She was, however, the most efficient.  Some of the pharmaceuticals we snorted were large and difficult to break down.  Nikki would pulverize these pills until they were mere dust, and she would do so without losing a single grain.  Lenny and I didn't have the patience for this.  If it were left up to us, we would just break them up and swallow them.  It was a less effective method, but it still got the job done.”

Dusting Angels is the harrowing tale of the final three days of a friendship.  It begins as an average morning for Jay, Nikki, and Lenny; incapacitated by drug induced sickness and desperation.  These overwhelming components would inspire an ill-conceived plot to rob a local drug dealer; a decision that would set the stage for a series of tragic events, including the accidental consumption of angel dust.  This innocent miscalculation would induce a form of psychosis that would enable their demons to ambitiously hunt them down without restraint.

The trio’s families would be left aghast by the devastation; helplessly searching for anything that resembled a solution to the psychological scars that years of emotional and sexual abuse created.  When dawn finally breaks, it reveals the pain their children carry; followed by desperate attempts to rectify their parental mistakes in order to salvage a small fraction of their children’s innocence.

Ultimately, Dusting Angels, is the story of love and hate; forgiveness and redemption.

About the Author:

Jason Douglas Smith, was born on Jan, 11 1977, in Norwalk CT.  He was the first of three children born to his loving parents, David and Lillian Smith.  From the moment Jason could crawl he demanded constant supervision or else he was bound to end up somewhere he didn’t belong.  He was a free spirit that rejected conformity even before he understood the notion.  His mother would dress him in a suit and tie for Sunday school and if not watched, he would jump on his bike and find the deepest, muddiest puddle to ride through.

School was of no interest to Jason.  He was inspired by authors such as, J.D. Salinger, Jack Kerouac and Hunter S. Thompson, authors who lived their lives freely and wrote about it.  That was the education he desired, the knowledge that could only be attained by the experience of living life.  In true adventurous, Kerouac fashion, Jason would spend the summer between his seventeenth and eighteenth birthday hitchhiking up and down the east coast, sleeping under the piers of the New Jersey Shore and aspiring to have an experience worth writing about.

By eighteen he had dropped out of High School and was on his way to California to become a writer.  In an effort to fine tune his raw talent, he forged the necessary signatures to attend a few years of college; studying English, Philosophy, and Psychology exclusively.  Realizing that Math and Science were a requirement for his degree, he dropped out.  He spent the next fifteen years writing everything from short stories to poetry, including screenplays.

Finally Jason discovered that his real passion was for novels.

After years of little success, he returned to his childhood home in Connecticut to help his father during the final stages of his mother’s life.  The boredom of small town living would help him rediscover a passion for writing and his mother’s untimely death would be the catalyst that inspired him to complete his first novel.

Jason currently resides in Connecticut; his next work germinating within the soil of his brilliant and boundless mind.
